e.VOLve - Voluntary & Community Groups Serving Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

Search Basics

To search the e.VOLve website, simply type in a few descriptive words and press the 'enter' key or click the search button for a list of relevant web pages. The search will return pages that contain all of the words in your search. You can refine or narrow your search by simply adding more words to the search terms you have already entered.

The e.VOLve search ranks pages in order of relevance and will also look for words that are similar to some or all of your search terms. If you search for 'environment' the search will also search for 'environmental', 'environments' and any other related variations of your terms.

Advanced Searching

You can enhance your search by using the advanced search page, to define search preferences or increase the accuracy of your search.

The search will return pages that contain all of the words in your search. In the advanced search you can change this behaviour to select pages that contain any of the words that you have provided in your search terms.

Phrases

The search supports searching for exact phrases, this is particularly useful for searching for proper names such as "Acacia Avenue" rather than retrieving pages that simply contain "Acacia" and "Avenue" but not necessarily as part of the same term. You can search for complete phrases by entering them into the exact phrase box for the advanced search or by simply enclosing them in double quotes ("like this") for the simple search.

Publication Dates

From the advanced search page you can narrow your search to pages that have been updated between particular dates. To do this simply select the day, month and year from the options provided.

Results

The search will return pages according to the rank calculated for each page. In the advanced search you can change this behaviour to return results according to the date the page was posted, updated or simply by the page title.

The search will also look for words that are similar to some or all of your search terms. In the advanced search you can change this behaviour to return results that match, specifically, your search terms.
