Aims and objectives:
a) To assist in the provision of facilities for the recreational, educational, therapeutic and leisure time occupation of:
Children, Child and adult carers of persons who are disabled, long term sick or elderly.
Disabled, long term sick and elderly persons in receipt of care. In the interests of social welfare with the object of improving their condition of life.
b) To promote better care and upbringing of children.
Services and activities offered:
We have a large stock of toys and equipment for child carers - e.g. childminders, nurseries and playgroups which enhance the early learning goals at the Child Carers Toy Store in Grenville House. We also run 63 community Toy Libraries for all families in Portsmouth with pre-school children and those with Special Needs up to 19 years, to play and borrow toys. We provide an outreach service to support hard to reach or vulnerable families to attend a toy library community group.
Restrictions:
Our service is available to under 5's, their carers and parents and those with special needs up to 19 years. Also people working with children. For Portsmouth residents and those in the SE Hants Health area.
Special needs catered for:
Most groups have access for disabled people. We have a stock of additional needs toys for loan, free of charge, to children with additional needs
at toy library groups or for £20 annual membership in our child carers toy store.
Charges:
Annual membership for the Child Carers Toy Store -other services are free in Childrens centre venues at £2 per family per week in other venues.
Times:
Mon - Thursday sessions am & pm. Special needs toy library at Portsea Clinic. Tues and Thurs 9.30am - 3.00pm Child Carers Toy Store. Also Friday 9am - 12 - All term time only
