  • Fleet & Church Crookham Society
    Objectives to preserve or enhance the quality of life of residents by campaigning for amenity provision. Involved in planning and development issues in order to monitor and comment on amenity issues. Amenity ranges from essential services (health, road, infrastructures, public transport) to sports community facilities, open spaces and informal leisure facilities. Also interested in town planning issues. Advice is provided to any resident who is affected by a planning application. Guidance provided on responding to/or objecting to planning applications. Interest in promoting civic pride and projects to improve the area.

  • Portchester Civic Society
    Conservation of built & natural environment. Aim to promote high standards of planning & architecture; educate the public in key aspects of the area & secure the preservation of places of historical and environmental interest. This includes monthly lectures/slides, visits, exhibitions and nature conservation work e.g tree planting, etc. Have restored the Grave of Thomas Goble (last Secretary to Admiral Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar) in St Mary's churchyard in the Castle and produced a book from their Oral History Project recordings, 'Portchester in Living Memory'.

    Although we are essentially a footpath protection organisation, we believe that the best way of maintaining the network in good order is to make regular use of it.The Society therefore organises regular walks. The Society's area is made up of the 13 parishes of Braemore, Damerham, Ellingham, Harbridge & Ibsley (single parish), Fordingbridge, Godshill, Hale, Hyde, Martin, Ringwood, Rockbourne, Sandleheath, Whitsbury and Woodgreen. Members receive details of walk venues. A Winter programme of talks and social events, both interesting and informative is arranged. We also arrange working groups involved in the formation and maintenance of rights of way.

    The site is open to the public on a regular basis, including wildlife trail & hide, guided or independent tour of the site, which includes the original boilers, steam engine, furnaces, filter house, quarry & other equipment from the early 20th century.

  • Wildlife Support & Conservation
    Checking and identifying rare plants with the BSBI recorder for North Hampshire, checking areas where development has taken place or is due to take place and advising on protection of wildlife, mammal paths, etc. Visiting residents on new developments and giving advice on how to attract birds and wildlife into garden and keeping mammal paths open, especially for hedgehogs.
